Yoga for Children
Children are born natural yogis. Babies are highly flexible and enjoy deep breathing which literally ripples like waves through their bodies. As children grow and develop, life gets busier with greater opportunities and higher expectancies. Children have the opportunity for so much stimulation from school, activities, clubs and multimedia. All sensory information is processed by the mind and body which means that at times children are simply over stimulated. Yoga allows time for children to readjust and settle themselves so that they are neither under- or over-stimulated. The practice of yoga – asana (postures), breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation – creates harmony of the mind, body and spirit. This can help with a range of areas, including concentration, learning, flexibility, strength and self-expression.
